The design intention was to separate the top and bottom material, although the both has identical finish. The bigger, the bottom part contains heat generating components, so to help the heat to dissipate faster. Same paint on top of different material will have different colors. The bottom aluminum had to be chromated differently through several trials, and put through the same painting/coating line along with the top plastic part to ensure the quality of the finish.
