Optical illusions among design elements please our eyes. Optical illusion design utilizes some techniques such as patterns, colours, and reflections from lenses to produce effects that look different depending on which angle the viewer look. It is fun to see still images that confuse the eye as if they were moving. March 2022 Newsletter introduces CMF cases with fantastic 3D optical illusions. Shall we go together now to a new dimensional world drawn on a flat surface?

Random Acts Of Psychedelia, Tele Plasm

One of psychedelic art projects, 'Random acts of psychedelia, tele plasm, 2017', is a good example of an optical illusion. It is designed by overlap of two or three different colors on a periodic pattern to create an illusion of movement, as if the image is alive. The project was uploaded to an online creative community site, Behance, providing a unique inspiration to many designers.

Lenticular Film Sheet, SFXC

SFXC, a British supplier of special effect coatings, pigments and plastics, has created Rowlux Lenticular 3D Sheet/Film with amazing moving patterns and unique dimensions as the light reflects from thousands of tiny parabolic lenticular lenses which have been ingeniously moulded onto both surfaces of the flexible sheet. The printed optical illusion images on the sheet create very strong illusory movement, and appear to move and vibrate from various angles. The sheet cand be rolled for easy storage. A guillotine, craft knife or scissors can be used to cut it into any shape. As it comes in a wide variety of patterns and colors, translucent and opaque, you can choose the right product for your project.

3D Illusion Logo Pattern, Intops

INTOPS has developed a material that creates a 3D optical illusion on a flat surface in a single process. Unique logo and pattern designs can be realized by adjusting angles of print patterns. Cost reduction is also possible because there is no need to add extra materials for a 3D effect. Moreover, environmentally friendly features can be highlighted by integrating the environmental sustainability of PCR plastic materials. Depending on a pattern design, a moiré effect can also be realized, so the range of application is wide.
