Coexistence of Reality and Fantasy

Introducing architectural examples reminiscent of Dreamcore. First, 'Ruby City,' located in southern Texas, is a center exhibiting contemporary art. Designed by Adjaye Associates and inspired by Linda Pace's nocturnal fantasies, this building visualizes a glowing red tower. The red terrazzo used on the exterior, similar to concrete, was manufactured by the Mexican company Pretecsa. The sharp red spire evokes scenes from SF animations.

The 'Galleria Department Store' in Suwon, Korea, designed by OMA led by architect Rem Koolhaas, adorns its facade with numerous mosaic-shaped stones, notably featuring irregular glass facades produced by Korea's Withworks. Using 3D printing for various molds and creating metal nodes through casting, 1652 irregular glasses were crafted based on 3D design data. Constructed over 7 months, this structure and its wall combinations create a surreal atmosphere.

The well-known 'Vessel' in Manhattan, New York, part of the Hudson Yards redevelopment project, completed in 2019. Designed by British designer Thomas Heatherwick, this beehive-shaped building with 16 floors (about 46 meters) houses 2500 steps and 80 viewing landings. Produced in Italy and transported by ship, its form with a narrow base of 15 meters widening at the top, coated with copper-colored metal panels, exudes an unreal atmosphere. While entry inside the building is currently prohibited, it continues to inspire us.

The Spectacular Arrival of Barbiecore

ⓒWarnerBrosKorea

ⓒairbnb

In the summer of 2023, the release of the movie 'Barbie' brought about the 'Barbiecore' trend. Barbiecore, a synthesis of Barbie and core, denotes the phenomenon where Barbie doll style becomes central to lifestyle. Through the Barbie movie marketing, 1980s Barbie doll fashion and striking hot pink color spread across social media. Barbie-style fashion and interior design gained popularity on Instagram and TikTok, with a 1135% increase in searches for Barbie interiors on Pinterest. The interior design expressing individuality and adding points to a mundane style exemplifies Dreamcore CMF design.

Korea's 'LX Hausys' introduced cases suggesting our living spaces in a fantasy ambiance in their interior trend report released earlier this year. Emphasizing the significance of living spaces during the pandemic, the report meticulously proposes all interior elements like furniture, flooring, wallpapers, lighting, and accessories. This invokes inspiration beyond mere relaxation, showcasing the power of CMF to satisfy diverse senses. Check out these designs that invite you into a surreal and dreamy world, allowing you to forget the fatigue of daily life and immerse in a new realm.

Korea's 'Byso' is a brand proposing furniture and interior designs. Their interiors convey a fairytale-like, unrealistic feeling with items creating rainbow-like effects in indoor spaces, sharp royal blue-colored mirrors, and colorful sofas.

Two years ago in Milan, 'Dior' exhibited new Medallion chairs in collaboration with designers and artists worldwide. These chairs showcased unique characteristics reflecting various artists' design philosophies and working styles. Korean artist Yang Seung-jin created toy-like chairs layered with epoxy on balloons, while Japan's Nendo presented glass chairs emphasizing curves. Additionally, Italy's Dimore Studio highlighted sophistication with striped materials, and France's Pierre Yovanovitch proposed a pair of chairs symbolizing 'Madame' and 'Mademoiselle' using Dior's jacquard material. These artworks create a dreamy and unreal atmosphere, combining artists' imagination and craftsmen's touch to offer joy and a sense of happiness.

Rolls-Royce's Symbol: Starlight

ⓒRollsRoyce

ⓒLucid

Rolls-Royce's 'Starlight' is renowned for creating a dreamy atmosphere within vehicle interiors. This technique involves making around 1,000 holes in leather material and using fiber optics to create lighting effects. It's anticipated that a similar scene will be staged in the interior design of 'Gravity,' a vehicle by the U.S. electric car brand 'Lucid,' slated for release at the end of next year.
